DEO FOODS

My name is Erica Tegah Codjoe
I am an entrepreneur, CEO of Deofoods and a mother of 4.

I started my small business because I had to quit my job to take care of my first child. My husband was almost always not in town and I didn’t have ready help.I was not ready to leave my baby to a total stranger and at that time there was news all over about nannies maltreating babies so I was a little scared. My mum was busy and my father in law at that time was sick so my mother in law was taking care of him. I also didn’t want any external member around so I decided to do it on my own. It was not easy at all as a first-time mum.

After almost 2 years of staying at home taking care of my baby, I decided I was ready to work again. I went in search of a job and luckily I got one and went for an interview. Some few weeks after the interview, waiting to be called, I realised I was pregnant again.

“Oh my God”

There and then, I realised getting a new job was a wrong decision. I had to decline the offer when I got contacted that I had gotten the role. I decided going to school will not be a bad idea, at least I will make use of the time even though it will not be easy.
I went ahead and applied but my doctor was not in favour of the idea because I was pregnant with twins and he said it was a high-risk pregnancy. He told me he was not ready for any stories so if I truly love my children, I should wait after birth. Since I had already applied, I waited till I got the admission and then wrote to the school to defer.

I delivered my twin boys safely. This time I got help from my Mother-in-law who was fantastic with the kids. Unfortunately, my father in law had passed away earlier. I actually gave birth exactly a year after he died, the same exact day. I am certain he blessed me with these strong boys. May his soul rest in peace.

After the children grew a little and it was time to pursue my MBA in Human Resource. It was fun and tedious at the same time. First year passed successfully. In my second year, first semester, I realised I was pregnant again. Surprisingl, I dreamt of having an MBA baby and it came to pass. Lol.
I carried my pregnancy halfway first semester which nobody realised and full term in the second semester.

It was hell doing assignments, group discussions and worst during revision and exams time. I can’t even talk about doing my long essay. Whenever I decide to learn, I feel tired and sleepy. I also had to deal with the constant worry, noise and distractions from the children at home. It was soo unbearable. Then it struck me what my doctor told me when I was pregnant with the twins and I was glad I listened. I wrote my final exams and one of the annoying things I remember was the fact that there were seats in some exam halls that I couldn’t fit into with my pregnant belly coupled with the fact that I had to keep going out to urinate.

After finally delivering my fourth, I asked myself if I could look for a job again. Even with one child, my husband made me stop work to take care of her how much more 4 and I couldn’t stay in the house forever.
I thought of acquiring a shop and stocking but I realised that doesn’t come easy. The shops were too expensive. Then it hit me that my mum sells food which demands a lot of supervision which I wasn’t ready. However, she does peanut butter herself which a lot of people purchase, even my friends call me to buy some for them. I decided to take that on because some of the peanut butter that I see on the market is horrible. At the time, she was only making natural peanut butter.

I decided to go in for the peanut butter business, polish and spice it up and make it very healthy for everyone to be able to consume which will be done in the comfort of my home, make some money and still have time to take care of the kids. Since taking over this business, I have found innovative ways to make my peanut butter stand out. I have included healthy, nutritious ingredients, without losing the rich taste of peanut butter. I now stock with different retail stores across the country and hoping to expand nationwide and beyond.

I have a variety of flavoured peanut butter good for kids and adults depending on your taste and preference

  • Natural peanut butter
  • Chunky peanut butter
  • Cinnamon peanut butter
  • Turmeric peanut butter
  • Ginger peanut butter
  • Moringa peanut butter
  • Honey peanut butter
  • Chocolate peanut butter

They can be used as bread spread, toast, crepes, pancakes, waffles, banana splits, parfait, oats, smoothies, yogurt, cookies, dessert toppings, stews and soups.

We seek for the healthy needs of our customers so we use natural and healthy spices and ingredients for our peanuts.

We also have cold and hot pressed coconut oil for cooking.
